It's been a busy and exciting week in Penhallow!
We had a fantastic Sports Day on Wednesday. Everyone took part with enthusiasm and showed brilliant sportsmanship - well done, team!
On Friday, we enjoyed our usual swimming session, which is always lots of fun and a great way to build confidence in the water.
In English, we've completed our lighthouse stories. The children worked so hard, and the results are wonderful - full of creativity and imagination.
In Maths, Year 1 will be learning all about money next week - we're looking forward to exploring coins, notes, and how we use them. We've also been using the iPads on Friday afternoons to complete our PSHE and Computing work - the children are really enjoying using technology to support their learning. Please don't forget about our exciting up coming trip to Looe Island on Tuesday.
Have a lovely weekend!

District Sports Event
A massive well done to all the children who represented WPA on Monday 23rd June at the District Sports. Children competed in a mixture of short and long-distance races, as well as throwing and jumping events. It was very close in the standings and in the final race, the Year 6 relay, we needed to beat St Merryn to win. As the baton came around, they had a lead but we closed it down and overtook to take the race win and the overall win as well! Well done everyone.

Y1 Trip to Polzeath
Year 1 had a fantastic day at Polzeath where they were joined a Beach Guardian for an interesting talk about plastics on the beaches and in the sea before cleaning the beach. They found some interesting items, including a bottle top from long ago, fishing net, plastic containers and nurdles (which are very small plastic pellets). Thank you to all our parent volunteers who also helped on the trip.

Year 4 Residential Trip - Porthpean Adventure
What an amazing few days we had at Porthpean!
Day one kicked off with some awesome water activities: kayaking, mega SUPs and coasteering. Everyone worked together to paddle out and explore the coastline, finishing with some epic rock jumps just off a hidden beach - so much fun and bravery on display.
Day two was all about trying new skills and pushing boundaries. We had a go at archery, axe throwing and the high ropes course. It was incredible to see so many children (and even a few adults!) facing their fears and giving it their all. We ended the day with a silent disco - dancing, laughter and a well-earned chance to let loose.
On the final morning, we tackled the climbing wall and squeezed our way through the caving tunnels. Everyone gave it their best shot, and the determination was seriously impressive.
We are SO proud of every single child - the enthusiasm, perseverance, and courage they showed throughout was just brilliant. A huge well done to all - you absolutely smashed it!
Our Year 4 children who remained at school, have enjoyed their time with Year 3 as well as taking a river walk along the Camel Trail making mini-rafts to float on the water. They continued with some watercolour artwork and treasure hunt on the way back. To end the afternoon, they had a well-earned ice cream and a play in the park. During the afternoons, they have enjoyed creating some graffiti artwork.

Year 1 Stay and Learn
It was wonderful seeing so many family members join Year 1 this morning for their Stay and Learn extravaganza taking in so many different areas of learning, including hands-on practical activities for everyone to try out in history, science, maths and phonics.
APDRs
APDRs (Assess Plan Do Review) for our SEND pupils are currently being reviewed over the next couple of weeks. New targets will be written ready for next year. If there is anything you would like built into these targets, please contact your child's current teacher, as working in in partnership with parents is important to us.

It was great to see so many of you at sports day on Wednesday - thank you for coming. We were
very proud of the way the children joined in, competed and supported each other and of the Year 6
leaders who ran the morning so well. There will be photos on the class blogs later.
We added up the house points from the sports day races and awarded others to pupils for
exceptional effort, enthusiasm and determination. The final scores were Ash 64; Chestnut 65;
Willow 78 and Oak 99. Congratulations Oak!
Football Success
On Monday our football team played against Pelynt in the League where they played their best
match of the season. They worked together as a team, attacking and defending as one. Player of the
match was Harry. Final score: Polperro 10 - Pelynt 1. And even better news - we have just heard that Polperro has won the League, having won all five of
their matches. Go team Polperro! A well-deserved result.
FOPS Summer Fair - Monday 21st July at 2pm
Reminder that this Monday 30th June will be a MUFTI day where we will be asking for donations of
an item matching your child's house team colour to create hampers for raffle prizes. Children can
wear their own clothes and this could include wearing their house colour.
If you would like to help out on the day of the Summer Fair, please let us know.

Another week has gone by and Chaipel have been busy. We have been writing poetry on the theme of Cornish poet Charles Causley's I AM THE SONG. We have some incredible emotive sentences: I am the breeze that cools the Earth (Elsie), I am the personality that forms the mind (Joel) I am the fuel that ignites the flame (Aria) I am the ink that composes the word (Harry), I am the word that determines the sentence (Kora) to name but a few.
In Maths, the Y5s have been going back over key arithmetic skills such as long multiplication, division and have been introduced to the technical process of long division. Y6s are still on their travel project, looking at budgeting and identifying best value for money deals.
In our wider curriculum learning, Chaipel have been identifying the mining towns and villages in Cornwall and what types of mining they were famous for. In French, they have been identifying and ordering different foods and beverages and in swimming this week, Chaipel have been perfecting their underwater gliding. In Science, we have been investigating friction and for RE, we have been learning about values and what are import to us as both individuals and part of a wider community.
On Wednesday we had our Sports Day and it was a huge success. The Y6s were fab at organising and running the events and everybody gave their races 100%.
It's our Y6 Residential next week and we are really looking forward to it! Please make sure all medical forms are back in on Monday.
That's all from us so have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday!

What an unforgettable day! On Friday, our school field came alive for Brunel Sports Day, filled with cheers, cheers, and even more cheers as pupils competed and supported one another brilliantly. Each child showed incredible sportsmanship-cheering on teammates, offering high-fives, and celebrating every effort. No matter the result, enthusiasm ruled, and the collective energy was nothing short of inspiring.
The classic egg and spoon race was met with giggles, squeals, and some surprisingly steady hands! The sack race had everyone hopping in unison, occasionally tumbling, but always picking themselves up with a big smile.
The highlight of the afternoon was undoubtedly the obstacle course-complete with coloured water and vibrant hurdles. With the crowd on their feet and a rainbow of splashes marking each runner, the atmosphere was electric.
The sprints were a display of raw determination. Children poured their full effort into each dash, faces flushed with focus and energy. Mid-race cheers echoed, urging runners to push on to the finish line.
After tallying all the points, Team Tintagel emerged victorious-well done! They earned their win through exceptional dedication and teamwork.

Some of this weeks learning:
This week Mrs Phillips has been assessing the children in
reading and maths. The children have been amazing and have tried their best.
Mrs Phillips and the other adults have been amazed at how much the children
have learnt this year and how well they have retained skills and knowledge.
Foundation you are simply amazing!
This week the children have also been exploring patterns and
repeated patterns in maths and they have been amazing at making their own
patterns.
They have also been observing different types of seashell
and drawing them, using their cutting skills to cut and make flying seagulls,
creating their own ocean picture then writing about it and so much more.
The children are continuing to progress and achieve so much,
and we are looking forward to the last three weeks of their foundation year!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend

We have had a busy week exploring under the sea and finishing craft relating to this. The children have been exploring the under the sea tuft tray and making jellyfish.
We have enjoyed some sunny weather this week and have been making the most of this by practicing sports day on the field and exploring the nursery garden.
At story time we have enjoyed under the sea stories and the big children who are going to school soon enjoyed going into reception class to join them for a story before lunch.
The children have enjoyed carrying out different phonics activities including looking for initial sounds in the sand tray, going on a listening walk and blending sounds together to form words.
It was sports day on Wednesday and we were incredibly proud of the children for their great running. They all did a fab job.
We hope you all have a good weekend.
Julie and Sarah.

On Friday we had our Sports Day at Looe Primary. The children came to school dressed in their house colours Plaidy, Millendreath, Hannafore and Talland. We then took parts in lots of different activities to try and win as many points as we could for our team.
Our first activity was a circuit. We had to do hurdle jumps, throw a bean bag in a hoop, star jumps and then run back for the next person to start. Our next activity was a dress up relay, where we had a hat and we had to run to the next person and give them the hat. We found this very funny and trying to get the hat on and keep it on whilst running was challenging for some! Our last activity was a throwing activity. We had three different hoops and each hoop was worth a different amount of points. We then had to throw the bean bag in one of the hoops. We even made it more challenging at the end by moving the hoops further away.
Foundation / Year 1 made me so proud with their sportsmanship - especially on a very hot afternoon! They even managed to keep their energy for the races at the end of the day, I don't know how they did it! They were determined and responsible, showing two of our values to the rest of the school and the people that came to watch us.
I was so impressed with their attitude to sports day. Well done Plaidy, who were the winning team, but well done all of you for taking part.
Thank you.
