Week Ending Friday 8th May 2026

Pelynt Primary Academy  |  PreSchool

This week the children have all enjoyed planting some sunflower seeds, in the hope that little shoots will start to show in the next week or so.

All the children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the key features of the life cycle of a plant and showed their understanding with a sequence sticking activity, showing what happens when we plant a seed.

We are expanding this learning over the next couple of weeks as we begin to look at the many wonderful minibeasts that we may find in the garden and look at some of the life cycles of these too!

This topic is always good for group discussions on the importance of respecting and caring for living things and our natural environments.  The children have all shared their own experiences and understanding through our grand conversations at carpet time.

The children this half term have had lots of number challenges given to them, to really build up their confidence in number recognition.  We encourage counting in all areas of play, even when reading a story, and its good practice even at home to count small groups of objects and then to know the last number reached. We have also been practicing showing our 'finger numbers' to numbers 1-10 alongside this.

With this being a very short term before we begin our final term before summer break, I want to reassure parents of those children that will be starting Reception in September that all information will come out to you in plenty of time.  There will also be an opportunity to book a parent consultation with a member of the team during Summer Term 2.  We will let you know available dates after half term.

The Pre-School Team.

SATs

Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy  |  Y6 Treyarnon

Have a relaxing weekend year 6 and make sure you get some rest before next week. Remember not to worry about anything, I am proud of every one of you!

You are all unique and special with talents outside of what they test you on.

Stay positive, you can do it and remember that we have breakfast on Monday before the test.

Miss Burton

Sunshine and maps

Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy  |  Y6 Treyarnon

We decided to take our SAT's revision outside this afternoon so that we could enjoy the sunshine. We had to put apostrophes correctly into a sentence and then find the animal that completed the sentence from the orienteering stations. It was so much fun and great to explore the fantastic outdoor grounds we have here.

We have been consolidating our maths learning this week by practising our arithmetic and working together on some tricky reasoning questions.  It has been good to share strategies and help each other to be more confident in some of the trickier areas. Don't forget to play Time Table Rockstars in order to get those times tables super fast.

In music, we have been learning 'The Cup Song' from the film Pitch Perfect. We watched some tutorials, wrote some notation of our own and then worked in groups. Some of us mastered the pattern of the cup and some of us were really good at keeping the beat. Our next steps are to put it all together so that it works as a class performance.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine.

Week Ending Friday 1st May 2026

Pelynt Primary Academy  |  PreSchool

We have enjoyed such a productive and busy week in pre-school with a variety of fun activities.

The children started the week helping us to clear our tyre flower beds of weeds in readiness to plant some plants. We have enjoyed learning about how to plant and care for seeds and next week we will begin planting our own variety, from sunflowers to peas and wildflowers.

On Monday the whole school were very lucky to receive a special visit from Georgie's mum who bought along their family pony, Millie, for the whole school to meet and ask questions about how they look after their ponies and what it takes to become a showjumper!

The visit was enjoyed by all of the children, it was a very different but inspiring assembly.

Alongside this excitement, the children have been investigating seeds from different fruits and vegetables, and we also enjoy lots of art focused on flowers.  The children were asked to paint their own flowers after watching a demonstration, they remembered to include the stem, the bud, petals and leaves.  They will make a wonderful display in our garden center role play area.

We hope everyone enjoyed their bank holiday weekend,

The Pre-School Team.

Summer 1 Week 2 2026

St Cleer Primary Academy  |  Year 1/2 L

Art Fun!

Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy  |  Y6 Treyarnon

It's May!

This week in Treyarnon has been fun because we have been looking at different types of art. For example, perspective drawing, scaling up and graffiti.
Here are some of our wonderful creations. I'm sure you will be as impressed as I am!

In English, we have been writing our paragraphs for the persuasive leaflet about a space hotel. In particular, we have focused on the subheadings on food and accommodation. Some of their ideas have been imaginative and they have used some carefully chosen adventurous vocabulary.

In maths, we have been revising 2d and 3d shapes, money and angles. We have also been working on our arithmetic and practicing the questions we are still finding tricky.

In science, we investigated the solubility of substances by seeing if the temperature of water impacts how quickly something dissolves. We tried sugar and a teabag. Our results showed that the hotter the water, the quicker it dissolved.

I hope you all have a wonderful bank holiday weekend!

Copper valley Junior Academy  |  Year 4

April 2026

This month we have started our Summer term 1 units of learning. In English we have read the book 'The Land of Roar' by Jenny McLachlan and completed lessons to help us engage with and explore the text. The children are really enjoying this story based on an imaginary world and are looking forward to being able to plan and write their own doorway to adventure short story.

In Geography we have begun learning about rivers. We will be completing lots of investigation and enquiry work to help us answer the question "What are rivers and what are they used for?" So far we have recapped the water cycle and created our own 3D model of a river; each of the three courses and their features.

Changing states is our focus this half term in Science and during April we have learnt about the properties of each of the three states, how they are different from each other and how their particles are arranged and how they behave.

In PE this half term we will be completing our athletics unit of learning and so far we have been practicing how to complete a successful sprint.

Decimals have been our focus in Maths, which we will continue with next month. As always, we have completed lots of times tables work, focusing on mastering our multiplication facts and being able to recall them quickly.

This month we have also begun our painting and mixed media unit in Art. We have begun learning about tints and shades and used this knowledge to create our own 3d looking art work. We will continue to develop our knowledge and understanding whilst practicing the different required skills and techniques before creating a final piece of art for our summer art exhibition.

Week ending 1/05/26

Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy  |  Y2/3 Mousehole

It's been another jam-packed and exciting week in Year 2 and 3, with lots of hands-on learning across the curriculum!

English

In English, we have been continuing to develop our descriptive sentence writing. The children have been working hard to build more detailed and engaging sentences, thinking carefully about vocabulary and sentence structure to bring their ideas to life.

Geography & DT

We have been busy using atlases and maps, developing our geographical skills by locating places and understanding how to read different types of maps.

This has also linked nicely with our DT learning, where we explored seasonal foods, thinking about where food comes from and how this connects to different parts of the world.

Computing

In computing, the children have been creating their own animations. They really enjoyed bringing their ideas to life on screen and learning how sequences of images can create movement.

PE

In PE, we tried shuttle relay races for the first time. The children showed fantastic teamwork, speed and determination, and it was great to see everyone encouraging each other.

Art

In art, we continued developing our sketchbook work, building on previously learned techniques and taking pride in presenting our ideas and practice work carefully.

These are just some of the highlights from another busy week. The children continue to impress us with their enthusiasm, creativity and willingness to try new things!
