Week ending Friday 8th May

Polperro Primary Academy  |  Penhallow

Hello Everyone,

We have had great fun this week in our English lessons, using the story of  'George's Marvellous Medicine' as a stimulus to begin to write our own ,marvellous medicine.  We have been learning all about the features of instruction writing, and have identified and used imperative verbs in our own sentences.

During RE this week, we began to find out about the gospel in Christianity. We discussed the concept of forgiveness, and how we forgive others, as well as how others forgive us.

Our history learning has continued with the theme of explorers. We found out about Christopher Columbus, how he 'accidentally' discovered the Americas and about the different foods that he brought back to Europe.

In art this week, we have created some amazing art work in the style of Henri Rousseau, using water colours and oil pastels. We used our skills of drawing leaves and blending watercolours to create a background.

In computing this week, we looked at algorithms, and practiced giving precise instructions to Bee-Bots, using the beebot. App, as well as physical beebots and mazes. Brilliant team work Penhallow!

Have a lovely weekend!

Real life learning in action!

Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy  |  Y4/5 Duckpool

Year 5 have been enjoying learning more about area and perimeter in Maths and found it exciting to see an adult using his maths skills in real life whilst building our sensory garden. His careful measurements have resulted in a special space for our children to enjoy as the plants grow! We have also been having fun, measuring objects and estimating their area this week.

We're going on a picnic!

Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy  |  Issys Nursery

Our new story is all about going on a picnic, which is something we've discovered we all like to do!

The characters in the story have chosen their favourite foods to take with them so we decided to have the same as them for snack this week.

Hen chose red berries (we had both strawberries and raspberries), Goose chose red apples and Duck chose green pears.

At snack time we tried these fruits and discussed which ones were our favourite - strawberries won!

Which fruits are your favourite?

Week beginning Monday 4th May 2026

St Cleer Primary Academy  |  Reception/Year 1

This week we had a fantastic and very busy week of learning, which was topped off wonderfully by our class assembly. The children worked incredibly hard throughout the week and should be very proud of all they have achieved. It was lovely to see their confidence shining during the assembly, and they all did an amazing job speaking, singing, and sharing their learning.

In Maths, we have been learning all about fractions. We explored the numerator and denominator and discussed what each part of a fraction means. The children learnt about unit fractions and practised finding fractions of amounts using practical resources and pictures to support their understanding. We also completed lots of problem-solving activities to help us apply our learning in different ways. Reception have been learning subtraction in Maths and have been using objects, pictures, and number songs to help them take away and find answers.

In English, we wrote exciting missing posters for a penguin. The children thought carefully about how to describe the penguin clearly and used lots of interesting adjectives to make their writing more detailed and engaging for the reader. We focused on using full sentences, capital letters, and finger spaces, and the children enjoyed being creative with their poster designs.

In Learning Adventure, we continued our topic work on the Great Fire of London. We learnt about how the fire started and discussed why it spread so quickly through London. The children wrote informative sentences explaining the events and showed a good understanding of the topic. We also talked about how life was different in London in 1666 compared to today.

In PSHE, we discussed what it means to be a good friend. The children shared thoughtful ideas about kindness, helping others, listening carefully, and including everyone in games and activities. We spoke about ways we can show respect and care towards others both in school and at home.

In French, we have been learning our numbers to 10. The children enjoyed practising saying the numbers aloud and playing games to help them remember the correct pronunciation.

We have also continued practising our spellings during handwriting sessions and have been doing lots of phonics practice throughout the week. The children have been working hard on sounding out words, recognising tricky words, and improving their reading fluency and confidence.

Reception have had a wonderful week too. They learnt some amazing facts about space and enjoyed making their own rockets using a variety of materials. The children were very excited to talk about planets, stars, and astronauts, and they showed fantastic creativity in their rocket designs. It has been another brilliant week of learning across the school, and we are very proud of all the children for their enthusiasm and hard work.

Polperro Primary Academy  |  Chaipel

What an amazing bunch of people we are in Chaipel!

We have been brushing up on our reasoning skills, learning how to use ratio and proportion and why it is useful AND helping each other out on last-minute SATs queries. Everyone is totally ready for the papers, next week, and are already looking forward to the yummy breakfast on Monday morning!

We have been revisiting our first couple of pieces of work in English (that we did in September/October). It is amazing just how far we have come and recognising how mature our vocabulary and grammatical structures are now. We will now focus on characterising speech, where we will be re-writing a section of our class read 'Rumaysa - a fairytale'.

In other areas of the curriculum, we have been learning how to classify creatures into vertebrates/invertebrates and soft bodied/exoskeleton. We then went up into the field to do an animal observation. Henry and Isaac found a snail with an unusual-coloured shell which made it look like a green humbug!

In PE, Mrs Hillman developed our skills at orienteering, in PSHE Mrs Clary taught Chaipel about the stages of grief and discussed strategies on how to manage them, and we have completed our research into the seven life processes. Next week, we will be creating our tie-dye T-shirts in the afternoon and we are super excited to do that.

Remember, Breakfast Club is at 8am; the bacon will be sizzling so see you all then!

Miss Randle and Mrs Clary.
