Polperro Primary Academy  |  Chaipel

We began our final week this term with our Wellbeing Morning - time dedicated to positive mental health for all. We completed our yearly RSPB Bird Watch and then took part in a series of activities: a book and a blanket, Lego, pebble painting, arts and crafts and hot chocolate and camp fire story-telling. It was a lovely morning; Tristan loved telling stories to the children in Reception and Y1.

We have completed our Midnight Fox 'write the story's ending' and then Miss Randle read the final chapters of the book to see if our written predictions were correct. We were thankful to find out that both the vixen and her cub were rescued and fled to safety!

In Maths, we are winning fractions, decimals and percentages and have worked hard this week to order, compare, convert and find equivalences.

In our Wider Curriculum, we made 'Dracula Detection Devices' in Science - using pressure pads - to complete our investigation into circuits, created powerpoints on our fundraising charity and event and completed our Basquiat-themed neo-expressionism artwork.

REMINDER
A letter was sent home today with with information regarding SATS club timings:
Tuesday (3:15pm - 4:15pm)
Wednesday (12:30 - 1pm)
Thursday (8am - 8:30am)
This is a great opportunity for the children to work through their SATS revision books and work together to help with any misconceptions they have.

That's all from me so have a lovely half term and see you all on Monday 23rd February.

Miss Randle and Mrs Clary.

Week ending Friday 13th February

Polperro Primary Academy  |  Penhallow

 Hello Everyone,

What a wonderful end to the week we have had at Bodmin airfield!
We learnt all about the materials used to build the planes and how they are designed and made. We saw an incredible range of planes and even had a turn at sitting in the cockpit.

This week, we have also been busy weaving landscapes using different materials in the style of the Cornish artist Caroline Saxby.

In English, Year 2 have been finding features of recounts, while Year 1 have been improving their punctuation in sentences.

In music, we enjoyed listening to different genres of music, which had the theme of flight. This included 'The Lark Ascending' by Vaughn Williams, and 'The Aviary' by Camille Saens Saens. The children used a range of musical vocabulary to describe the music and explained how the music made them feel. We then enjoyed some uplifting singing.

On Monday we spent time in our house groups, enjoying some fun and relaxing activities that the children felt improved their mental health. These activities included painting, bird watching, spending time outdoors, playing collaboratively, building, reading and playing games. It's always so lovely to see the older children in the school, helping the younger children in Penhallow.

We hope you have a lovely half term.

Highlights of learning for week ending 13.2.2026

Harrowbarrow Primary Academy  |  Class 2

This last week of the half term has been a fun filled learning adventure in class 2.

We have spent a lot of time reflecting on and consolidating our learning from this half term. In Literacy, we have all finished writing our "triumph over terror" stories, and have been illustrating our stories so that we can have our very own picture books. We can't wait to share them with you when we come back after the break! In Maths, we have consolidated our understanding of multiplication and division, especially multiplying and dividing by 2, 5 and 10.

In Science, we completed the final recording of our experiment and spent some time discussing our findings and drawing our conclusions from it all. We have found that water is very essential for a seed to germinate, and that it does not really need soil to do the same. In History, we wrapped up our learning from this term by answering some key questions on the topic of the history of flight. On the left is a photo of Roma's beautiful write up about the key facts we have learned in this unit. In Computing, we consolidated all our learning about word processing by creating a document with details about a friend. We typed our text, formatted it in our friend's favourite colour and inserted a photo of them.

Finally, a very well done to:
> Roux for getting the Ready Award for his fantastic progress in Maths, especially his knowledge of multiplication and division.
> Harriet for getting the Respectful Award from Mrs Connell for her fantastic attitude during RWI lessons.
> Emily for getting the Safe Award for being a super helper to Mrs Connell, helping her with the gates every morning.
> Isla for being nominated for the Safe Award by the Positive Potato Police for letting others join in her game.

Have a lovely half term break, and see you all bright and refreshed on Monday, 23 February 2025.

Thursday 12th February 2026

Polperro Primary Academy  |  Landaviddy

Happy Half Term!

This week has zoomed by! On Monday, we hosted a whole school wellbeing morning, where all the children participated in a range of mindful activities, as part of Children's Mental Health Week. One of these activities included rock painting, which the children found very relaxing. On Tuesday, we participated in Safer Internet Day, which focused on making smart and safe choices around the use of AI technology.

We finally constructed our toy cars in DT! All of the children worked so hard on their designs and demonstrated excellent determination. See if you can spot yours below! As a result of hard work, all the children independently made a moving car with axles and wheels. Well done Landaviddy! We of course had to spend some time racing with our finished products, which was lots of fun.

In English, we have enjoyed learning the story The Lonely Beast by Chris Judge and developing our skills as writers, thinking carefully about our choices of vocabulary. We constructed character descriptions of the Lonely Beast which we will use for a missing poster. In Maths, we have been looking at the 4 times table, applying our knowledge of multiplication and division.

Congratulations to Iylah for being noticed by Mr Langley as a Person of the Week. And a big well done to Lowen for achieving his 99 club badge this week.

We hope you have a restful half term and we look forward to welcoming you back in school on Monday 23rd February 2026

February 2026

Copper Valley Infant and Nursery Academy  |  Reception

We've been learning about what homes were like in the past. We talked about our kitchens now and the appliances we have in them. We discussed the fact that many of these need electricity in order to work. We then watched a short video about kitchens in the past. We talked about things that were different to our kitchens now. We learnt about how people washed their clothes using a dolly peg, washboard and mangle. We then moved on to talking about bathrooms. We watched another short video about bath time in the past and talked about the fact that most houses didn't have a bathroom. We then sorted objects into two different sets according to whether they are found in our homes now or were found in them in the past.

In RE we talked about places that are special to us and why they are special. We talked about the fact that churches are special places for Christians. We looked at some photographs of churches and some of the objects found inside them. We also watched a short video showing some of the features of a church. We then visited our local church and drew some of the features.

In maths, we've been learning about doubles. We've been practising what we've learnt during continuous provision. We've sorted dominoes according to whether they're doubles or not, made playdough spots for the ladybirds and drawn spots on butterflies to make doubles. During some of our lessons we learnt how to compare the weight of objects and how to use balances to identify which is the heaviest and which is the lightest. We then used the balances to weigh the fruit and vegetables when selling food on the market stall.

In PE we've been learning to make various shapes with our bodies. We've been focusing on keeping stable with straight arms and legs and while pointing our toes. We've also been learning to balance on various parts of our bodies.

After half term we focused on activities to develop the children's perseverance. I gave the children some challenges to have a go at. These included balancing a ball on a tennis racquet whilst walking across the hall, making a card house, bouncing a ball into a bowl and throwing darts at a target board. They also had some that involved working together with a partner. These included walking along with a large ball pressed against their backs and seeing how many bears they could save from the lava using only 3 cups and 5 lolly sticks. Many of the children found some of these activities very difficult but they kept on trying. We talked about how they were being determined like a dung beetle. We also talked about how they felt when they managed to achieve what they set out to do.

Staying safe with technology

Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy  |  YR/1 Tregantle

What a fantastic end to the half term we have had in Tregantle Class!

This week, we have been exploring internet safety through a range of exciting and engaging stories, including #Goldilocks and Old MacDonald Had a Phone. The children thoroughly enjoyed these modern twists on traditional tales and engaged brilliantly in discussions. They have been learning how to stay safe when using different technologies and were able to share some excellent ideas about what to do if something worries them online. We are so proud of how thoughtfully they contributed to our conversations.

In PE, we had great fun in our final lesson of our unit, Best of Balls. The children worked incredibly hard practising their throwing and catching skills using balloons. Their challenge was to keep the balloons off the floor - which led to lots of laughter and smiles! It was wonderful to see them developing their gross motor skills while also working cooperatively and encouraging one another.

It has truly been a fabulous half term, filled with so much learning, progress and growing confidence. We are incredibly proud of everything the children have achieved. We wish you all a restful and enjoyable week off school. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for the second half of the Spring Term, where we will begin our exciting new topic all about animals from around the world! Have a lovely half term break!

Library Visit

Polperro Primary Academy  |  Penhallow

Library visit postponed

The library have emailed us today, to inform us that they will have to postpone tomorrow's visit. We are sorry to disappoint the children. Please come in cosy clothes tomorrow, as stated on Friday's letter from Mrs Hillman.
Thank you!

Week ending Friday 6th February

Polperro Primary Academy  |  Penhallow

Hello Everyone,

We look forward to our trip to Looe library on Monday afternoon. Please note, as the letter states, school uniform should be worn. If your child would like to bring something cosy for mental health day, please bring this in addition. This is not compulsory.

On Friday, you will have received a letter regarding a trip to Bodmin Airfield that will take place on Thursday. We have already been learning about a number of influential historical figures that have contributed to the history of flight, such as The Wright brothers' and Amelia Earhart. This week, we also learnt about the achievements of Amy Johnson. We also learnt about the design of a number of different aircraft throughout history. This will help us with our learning on the trip. There will be so many fascinating types of aircraft to see, and I know that the children our really looking forward to going.

This week, we have also been writing a diary entry and a recount, based on the film clips 'The man on the Moon' and 'Baboon on the Moon.' We have noticed a big improvement in handwriting this week. Year 1 have been improving their letter formation, while Year 2 have been starting to join their handwriting very carefully. Well done Everyone.

From The Penhallow Team

Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy  |  Y4/5 Perranporth

w/e 6.2.26

It's been another busy and enjoyable week in Perranporth class, with lots of learning happening across the curriculum.

In English, the children continued their diary writing linked to our Geography topic on deserts. They imagined being stranded on a desert island and produced some thoughtful and creative diary entries. Later in the week, we produced some art linked to our story book, Kensuke's Kingdom.

Maths lessons focused on multiplication and division, with plenty of practice to build number sense and confidence.

In Geography, we explored how people live in and use deserts, then also the risks to deserts, while Science lessons continued our work on electricity. The children also enjoyed gymnastics in PE, photo editing in Computing (see photo above!), and learning about habitats in French.

We finished the week with DT, making patterns for our book covers, PSHE discussions about friendships, Number Day activities and Achievers Assembly, celebrating the children's hard work and successes.

Polperro Primary Academy  |  Chaipel

Another busy week in Chaipel this week. We sat some mock SATS each morning and everyone has been amazing, trying their best and giving every paper 100%. We know what we need to focus on moving forward and we will be totally ready for the real thing in May!

In English, we have been editing, improving and writing up our narrative in best copy. I will read the ending of 'The Midnight Fox' next week to see if our predicted endings match the author's. We will complete our English by merging our enquiry in to North America with our writing by creating a non-fiction text about the geographical features of a chosen North American country.

Our new gymnastics apparatus arrived this week and we have been testing it out as part of our P.E unit. We were creating symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes as well as building core tension.

In other areas of the WIDER CURRICULUM, we have created our background and portrait for our Basquiat artwork - we will complete this next week. Our stop motion animation has progressed to adding sound effects which we will continue to edit and improve on next week and we have been learning about world time zones in Geography.

Well done to our People of the Week - Lily, Henry and Isaac - for demonstrating our school values.

That's all from me so have a great weekend!

Miss Randle and Mrs Clary.
