This week
we enjoyed some healthy baking in pre-school.
We made apple and honey flapjacks where the children helped to chop the
apples and then mix all of the ingredients together.
We talked
about what other fruits we could use in a flapjack recipe, and why we may use
honey instead of sugar. This lead on to
lots of discussion about what we know about how bees make honey. Did you know that a honeybee has 2 stomachs? One
is specifically used to carry the nectar.
We have
talked about what we enjoy for a healthy meal or what we can pack for a healthy
lunch at pre-school.
The
children have been using this as inspiration in our mud kitchen area and
serving us lots of leafy salads!!
Next week
we will be looking at other ways we stay healthy, such as washing our hands and
brushing our teeth.
A reminder
that on Tuesday 23rd we have our whole school sports day starting at
1pm. The pre-school will take part in a
couple of races at the start.
Also, there
is a sign-up sheet for our parent consultation week in pre-school entrance. Please sign up if you would like an informal
chat about your child and how they are doing in pre-school.
If there is
not a date suitable, please do come and see us to arrange an alternative.
Parents of
children moving up to Reception in September should have received an information
pack from school and an invitation to attend the parent's welcome meeting on
Wednesday 17th at 2.30pm.

As always, summer term is full of exciting outdoor based activities, however some of these have needed some clever thinking to be completed. In Design Technology, we have learning about nutrition and how to cook spaghetti Bolognaise and we were going to cook this using the forest school area and the campfire however, the weather had different ideas. So an outdoor kitchen was erected under the awning outside Tolbenny class and cooking got under way. The children used their learning from previous lessons to create their own Bolognaise sauce which they put in glass jars complete with labels and nutritional information attached.
Sailing lessons are underway and this week we were joined by the Saga cruise ship in the river. This soon became a magnet for the Fusions as the children battled the wind and outgoing tide to follow the waypoints. We managed with only boat capsizing and as always, the children showed resilience and confidence to get back on the boat and carry on with the lesson.
Next week is the Bridge School Games and our Sports Day so lots of active days to look forward to.
Have a lovely weekend.
MrT and MrsW
Another wonderful week has flown by in Mousehole Class, and the children have continued to impress us with their enthusiasm, creativity and hard work across the curriculum!
In English, we have been exploring verbs and the suffixes -er and -or, thinking about how these can change words and their meanings. The children have also planned, written and performed their own Kennings poems. We were so impressed with their imaginative ideas and confident performances, which brought lots of fun and creativity to our classroom.
This week in maths:
The children enjoyed another exciting session with Cricket Chris, developing their cricket skills further by learning how to bowl the ball accurately. There was some fantastic concentration, teamwork and determination on display.
In computing, we have been exploring desktop publishing, learning how to organise text and images effectively to create attractive and informative documents.
We had an exciting hook lesson to launch our new history enquiry question:
"How have children's lives changed?"
The children became history detectives, sorting different children's objects into the time periods they thought they belonged to: Tudor, Victorian or Modern Day. They enjoyed discussing their ideas and making predictions before finding out the answers.
To deepen our understanding, we then worked collaboratively to create large-scale artistic representations of a Tudor child and a Victorian child. The children absolutely loved this activity, and the finished pieces are now proudly displayed in our classroom for everyone to enjoy.
In art, we began our new unit on sculpture. We started by exploring what sculpture is and how sculptors create three-dimensional artwork. Using the boxes kindly brought in from home, the children experimented with cutting them into different shapes and discovering ways to join them together without using glue or tape. They showed fantastic problem-solving skills and creativity as they investigated different construction techniques.
These are just some of the highlights from another busy and successful week in Mousehole Class. The children continue to amaze us with their curiosity, resilience and willingness to embrace new challenges. We look forward to sharing more of their learning with you next week!

Our first
week back after half term was a short one with Fridays Inset day. We hope you all had a fun day if you took the
opportunity to visit the Royal Cornwall Show.
It was definitely the better day for the weather!
This week
we have started to introduce our Summer Term 2 enquiry question 'How do we stay
healthy' - we have been talking about all things fruit and vegetables! We sorted
lots of different foods into healthy and not healthy groups. This opened lots of fun discussions about why
we have certain foods as a treat and others are better options to keep us
healthy.
We talked
about names of fruits vegetables and shared with each other what ones we had
tried and if we liked them or not.
This topic
has been a great way to expand their imaginations and language during their
explore and learn time in our Cafe and Mud Kitchen role play areas.
This week
also seen us complete our Liskeard Show art entries. Inspired by our Spring topic around gardens
and planting seeds, we have entered our own 'Springtime Garden' artwork. Look out for it if you visit Liskeard Show on
Saturday 11th July.

We hope you had a lovely Easster and enjoyed the half term with the sunny weather.
In the ARC we use a 'Totally Communication System'. This involves using visuals, symbols, Makaton, AAC devices, sound buttons, photographs and objects of reference. This enables the childreun to have the use and means of communtication in many different ways.
During activities we play games where the child needs to choose between a few items pointing to the correct visual/symbol of their choice. Once this is established, the child and adult plays with the choosen item (making a choice). When the game is coming to a natural end there are symbols for 'more or finished'. We use these and makaton to investigate whether the child is ready to finish or do more.
When we engage the children in group activities such as 'Fun with Food', the children have visuals to help explore their senses. This encourages the children to look, touch and if they want to taste the item of food. At the end of the session the children can both sign and point to the correct symbol to indicate whether the 'liked or didn't like' the food.
Our morning routine starts with a song to encourage and invite the children to come and sit down. At this point we using symbols and the AAC device to find out the day, weather and the season we are in. We also look at who is packed lunch/school dinners and how the children are feeling. Here the children can put their picture up onto a appropiate visual.
The children enjoy using different means of communication and this enables them and the adults that work with them to have a better understanding of their wants and needs.
We are delighted to say the children have entered the final half term of the year so positively, showing fantastic focus, enthusiasm and maturity right from the start!
In English, we have begun exploring riddle poetry and kennings. The children have really enjoyed playing with language, thinking creatively, and performing their ideas aloud. There has been lots of fun, laughter and impressive use of vocabulary as they experiment with word choices and rhythm.
In maths this week:
We have now finished our topic "Why is our world wonderful?" The children produced some absolutely fantastic double page spreads, showcasing everything they have learned about oceans, continents, and human and physical features around the world. Their work demonstrated great knowledge, creativity and pride.
This week, the children had their first session with Cricket Chris, who introduced them to the skills and excitement of cricket. The children showed great enthusiasm and teamwork and thoroughly enjoyed getting active and learning something new.
On Thursday, we had a brilliant Design and Technology day. The children:
It was a fantastic hands-on day filled with creativity, teamwork and some very tasty results!
It has been a wonderful start to the final half term, and we are so proud of how engaged and motivated the children are as they continue their learning journey.
During this month the children continued to study 'Rivers' in their Geography unit. They learnt all about the different uses of rivers and their importance before answering their focus question, "What are rivers and what are they used for?"
In Maths, the children continued to work hard on their times tables before completing the MTC test. They also completed the White Rose money unit.
In Science the children have continued learning about 'Changing States'. They looked at reversible and irreversible changes and melting and boiling points of different materials. They then planned and carried out an experiment investigating the melting points of different foods.
Art this month involved the children continuing their learning about paint, composition and proportion. We had a focus on landscapes and linked our work to that of Georgia O'Keefee's art work. They carried out lots of sketching and practiced mixing paints to create different tints and shades before sketching and painting a local landscape in the style of Georgia O'Keefee. Their art work was then displayed in our school's art exhibition.
In computing the children learnt about using Scratch to develop their knowledge and understanding of programming. They investigated some of the different projects already on Scratch before developing their own coding to make a multiplication game. They learnt about variables and different statements to help them ensure their project worked how they wanted it to.

For our
final couple of weeks in pre-school, we explored the exciting world of
minibeasts!
We have
learnt lots of interesting facts about how many legs the insect may have, whether
they have wings or not, and what colours or patterns may be on them.
We painted water-colour
minibeasts and enjoyed our minibeast garden tuff tray as part of our explore
and learn time.
It's been a
fun half term learning all about what we can find in a garden, and how we plant
seeds and care for them.
The
children's young sunflower seedlings have started to be sent home, we would
love some photos later in the summer if they flourish into successful
sunflowers!
This year pre-school
will be entering an art competition at Liskeard show. Inspired by our recent learning the children
have started their 'Spring Time Garden' art to enter into the competition.
After half
term we will be moving on to a new enquiry question, 'How do I stay healthy?'
We will be
looking at healthy foods, hygiene and exercise. Perfect timing as we will be
practicing for Sports Day when we return too.
More
details about Sports Day and other key dates will be available shortly after we
return.
On Thursday
the children in pre-school got a treat from Miss Edwards when they were able to
toast marshmallows over the campfire.
All the children listened well to the instructions to safely hold their
marshmallows, and then gave 10 blows to cool them down before eating! Yummy!
We hope
everyone has a lovely half-term week and enjoys the planned sunny weather.
We will see
you when we return on Monday 1st June.

This week, we have finished our Space Hotel leaflets. I am extremely proud of their writing and love the time and effort they put into the presentation.
In geography, we have collated our data from the fieldwork to create a map or Fore Street, tally chart of the types of shops and and overview of the results from the questionnaire. The children then worked in groups to create and present the findings to the class.
In computing, we found out about Infrared devices and we designed our own creations that could be used in school. Some people thought of machines that use heat to detect germs; others created laser machines to protect the school IPads.
Today, we bent the rules by wearing mufti, painting our nails and doing colouring in when we should have been doing maths!
Have a great half term everyone.
Miss Burton
The children have been learning about Greek cuisine this week, finding out that olive oil, wheat and wine are food staples in Greece.
The week started with the children putting their taste buds to the test with a Greek taster session including: tzatziki, kalamata olives, pitta, feta, humous, sun dried tomatoes and dalmades (vine leaves). We were very impressed with how the children challenged themselves and tried thing that were new to them.
They then used cucumbers )a key ingredient in Greek salads) to practise using graters and peelers as well as different knife skills.
After considering which ingredients they had enjoyed tasting and would like to try again, the children designed stuffed Greek flat breads and a Greek salad.
They worked hard across the day today to prepare a Greek-inspired picnic. Using the skills learnt earlier in the week, they chopped ingredients for their Greek salads; measured, mixed and kneaded their ingredients for the dough; and stuffed their flat breads ready for baking.
This afternoon, both classes came together to sample their products-it is safe to say that the flat breads were a huge success!

We have had another busy and enjoyable week in Year 2 and 3, with lots of fantastic learning taking place across the curriculum!
In English, the children have been busy editing and improving their descriptive setting writing. They have worked hard to check their punctuation, improve vocabulary choices and make their writing even more engaging for the reader. We have been so impressed with the imagination and detail they have included in their work.
This week in maths:
In geography, we have continued exploring our wonderful world by learning more about the oceans and identifying different human and physical features across the globe. The children enjoyed using maps and atlases to help locate and discuss different places around the world.
In PE, the children have been learning and practising a variety of different jumps as part of our athletics unit. They showed great coordination, balance and determination while trying out new techniques.
As part of Mental Health Week, we spent time thinking carefully about feelings, friendships and wellbeing. The children had thoughtful discussions about how emotions can affect us and explored positive ways to solve disputes in friendships kindly and respectfully. We were very proud of the maturity and empathy they showed during these activities.
These are just some of the highlights from another wonderful week of learning. The children continue to work incredibly hard and approach each new challenge with enthusiasm and positivity!
I am so incredibly proud of year 6 this week! They have approached SATs with maturity, determination and resilience.
They have taken all the tests in their stride and gave them all their full effort. I hope they have a much deserved relaxing weekend!
Miss Burton
We have had a busy and creative week in class, full of exciting learning experiences across the curriculum.
French
The children have been learning how to order ice cream, building their confidence with key vocabulary and pronunciation. Friday was the perfect culmination of this learning as the children created their own ice cream stand and took turns to role-play ordering an ice cream of their choice. It was fantastic to see how seriously they took the activity, spending time practising their vocabulary, supporting one another, and carefully checking pronunciation with their peers. Their enthusiasm and commitment really paid off!
English
We have begun writing our own mystery stories, inspired by the book The Chocoplot. Some wonderfully inventive ideas are already starting to materialise, with children creating intriguing characters and mysterious plot twists. We are very much looking forward to seeing how these stories develop.
DT
Lessons have taken a tasty turn as the children have started exploring how to make spaghetti Bolognese. They have been learning how to adapt a recipe, investigating how fresh ingredients can change flavours and textures, and discussing the nutritional value of different ingredients. This has sparked some excellent discussions about healthy eating and thoughtful food choices.
Outdoor Learning
We have also launched our outdoor learning sessions with Miss West. Every Thursday, the children now spend time on the Forest School field, developing teamwork skills, resilience, and a deeper connection with the natural environment. These sessions have already been a big hit!
Next week, we look forward to our first water sports session on Monday.
