Week Ending Friday 5th September

Polperro Primary Academy  |  Penhallow

Hello Everyone!

A very warm welcome to our new Reception children and parents, and to our 3 new children who have joined us in Year 1.
We are so proud of our children this week, for the way that they have welcomed new friends, and showed kindness to each other. There already seems to be a lovely family feel to Penhallow this year.

We have launched our new enquiry question for this half term; 'What makes our families unique?' We have read stories and played games in which we got to know each other and explored the idea of being unique.

Individual reading books have been given to Year 1 and 2 children this week. Reception children will have some lovely new books to read and share at home during next week, after they have had their first phonics lessons. All children will also be able to choose a library book to take home, which they can change on a weekly basis.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments regarding school. hfitzsimmons@polperroprimary.co.uk

We look forward to seeing you next week, for our first full week.

Have a lovely weekend.

From The Penhallow Team - Mrs Fitzsimmons, Mrs Lister, Mrs Gouriet, Mrs Hodge and Miss Bowden.

Polperro Primary Academy  |  Landaviddy

Welcome Back Landaviddy

It has been lovely welcoming the children back into Landaviddy class. We have had a great few days settling into life as Year 3! We launched our enquiry for this half term 'Who Rules the Animal Kingdom?' and enjoyed spending some time up in the garden this afternoon. This year, we also welcome Mrs Lister who will be teaching Landaviddy class on a Tuesday.

PE will be on a Monday and Tuesday, so please ensure your child brings in their PE kit, along with their swimming kits.

Today, everyone has been sent home with a colour banded reading book and new reading record. We would like to ask that your child brings this book into school daily. Further information regarding homework expectations will be updated next week, so watch this space.

We hope you have a super weekend and look forward to seeing you next week for our first full week!

Mrs Wilkie, Mrs Lister and Miss Colton

St Cleer Primary Academy  |  Reception

Week beginning 1st September

St Cleer Primary Academy  |  Reception/Year 1

Welcome to R/1!

We are absolutely delighted to welcome all the children to our R/1 class. It has been a wonderful start to the school year, and over the past two days, we've had a fantastic time settling in, learning classroom routines, and getting to know each other. The children have shown great enthusiasm and kindness, and we're excited for the many learning adventures ahead.

Our Year 1 students have already jumped into their learning, beginning with Mathematics. This week, we introduced the topic of Place Value, focusing on numbers to 10. The children completed a pre-assessment to help guide our future lessons, and they've been busy counting and representing numbers using objects. They have shown great concentration and effort when completing questions in their maths books - a fantastic start to the term!

In English, we have started our unit on Traditional Tales. We listened to the classic stories of The Three Little Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff, which sparked some wonderful discussion. The children were asked to write a sentence explaining which story was their favourite and why, and it was lovely to see their growing confidence with writing and expressing their opinions.

To end the week, we enjoyed a creative afternoon where the children made their very own little pig characters using craft materials. It was a fun and imaginative way to bring the story to life, and the results were fantastic!

We are so proud of how well everyone has settled in and are looking forward to a year full of learning, creativity, and growth.

It has been great to see so many of you back over the last two days and we have also welcomed some new faces to our nursery family.
We hope you all enjoyed the summer holidays and are now well rested ready to start a new term.

Welcome to Kensa Class!

Blisland Primary Academy  |  Kensa

Sandwich Making

We have been busy tasting, designing and making our own healthy sandwiches. We tried to include foods from each of the five food groups (carbohydrates, vegetables, protein, fats and dairy). We used a range of tools to prepare our ingredients and combined them to make our own yummy lunch!

Bread Making

In DT, we have been exploring the question, 'What makes a tasty sandwich?'
We found out that bread is a fundamental part so we decided to make our own! Mrs Pengelly kindly showed us how to make the most delicious rolls. After making the dough, we shaped them into all kinds of crazy creatures? Can you guess what animals these are?

Geography

In geography, we have been learning about the four countries of the United Kingdom. We have explored the human and physical features of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and had fun constructing landmarks from Stonehenge to Tower Bridge. We learned to identify where we live on a map of the UK and the globe and considered how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world.

Special Delivery!

This afternoon, a strange parcel crash-landed in our playground. It contained a book and a letter from Marshall the Martian asking us to tell him more about our lives on earth. He sent us a picture of his family so we drew some pictures of our own to send back to him in space..but how will we get them there?

Welcome Back!

It has been fantastic to see the children return to school full of joy and ready to embrace their new learning!

Our topic this term is 'Where do I belong?'. We will be thinking about all the things that make us special; our families; our friends; where we live and the things we love.

Reading Reminders
Reading is one of the most important things we do in Kensa Class and we encourage all children to participate in reading activities at home at least 4 x per week. For children in Year Reception, this might be simply sharing a bedtime story together but children in Year 1 and 2 need to be reading aloud to an adult. Please record any activities you do in your child's reading record so we can celebrate their success!

PE
PE will take place on a Tuesday and Friday this term. The children should come dressed in their PE kit on these days with their school jumper to keep warm (and smart).

Thank you for making your child's return to school such a happy one, we really appreciate all you do!
