This week in History, we have continued our fascinating learning journey through World War II. We've been busy researching, designing, and creating our very own clay medals, inspired by real wartime medals. The children thought carefully about the symbols and shapes they used to represent bravery, service, and resilience during the war. Once dry, the medals will be painted to give them a truly authentic look - scroll through the pictures below to see their brilliant creations!
We have also been learning about propaganda and the powerful role it played during the war. After exploring a range of original posters, the children imagined they were living during WWII and created their own persuasive posters encouraging families to evacuate their children to the countryside. The results were eye-catching and persuasive - just like the originals!
While the Year 5s were hard at work on their posters, the Year 6s were off on their residential trip to Dewerstone Cottage, where they enjoyed a fantastic few days packed with adventure and teamwork.
It's been a busy and exciting week of learning, creativity, and new experiences for both year groups!
us.
Wow! What a busy start we have had to the first part of our Autumn term.
Settling:
The children have all settled in so well and have been adapting/learning our routines. It has been lovely for us to see the children starting to form relationships with their peers.
Reading:
The key texts we will be reading this half term are Owl babies
The Worry Monster
The Nutty Nut Chase
The Squirrels who squabbled
The Lion inside
Little Acorn
The Koala that could
It would be lovely too see photos of the children reading/sharing a book with you at home too.
Maths:
Our maths focus points are:
Touch counting 1-5
Finger counting
Number names 0-5
Number rhymes
It has been great to see the children using their fingers to represent numbers and count with.
Art Focus
This half term our art focus is to join different materials and explore different textures - ripping and sticking. Using glue sticks. Inspirational Artist: Ted Harrison. So far the children have enjoyed decorating their own autumnal shapes by ripping tissue paper nd sticking with glue.
Music:
We have loved our Friday music sessions with Mrs Butlin! We have been busy learning the songs ready for harvest festival at the church next week.
Gross/fine motor skills - phsyical activity:
The children have been developing these skills in many different ways. On Mondays they have been having fun during kixx sessions with Coach James! On Wednesdays we have been balancing, throwing, catching and turn taking during our PE sessions in the hall. We have also been devloping our hand muscles by painting, making clay hedehogs, digging in the sand and building with the magnetic shapes.
Thank you for your continued support and check back soon to find out what else we have been up to!...
We were so delighted this week to stage a musical extravaganza at Brunel which was attended by representatives from 10 different schools, including our Y5 pupils. Ages ranged from Y5-Y13 and the event was staged by The Gabriel Explore Vocal workshop. Only two schools in Cornwall were chosen to host, with a view to performing in Truro Cathedral next year and we were thrilled to take part. Many thanks to Mrs Swabey and Mr Jane for organising.
Our Y4 children are continuing with their weekly violin lessons and we've been impressed with how they are progressing each week - so very well done to them!
Mental Health Awareness Day was a ray of sunshine in October, as we all wore yellow this Friday and completed some mindful activities.
Thank you also for your support with Harvest Festival and contributing to the wonderful Saltash Food Bank. It was lovely to celebrate with so many parents and carers in assembly on Monday.
We really enjoyed our mixed media portraits lesson on Friday too!
Have a great weekend everyone.

Another week goes by in Landaviddy class, and what a week it has been! We have continued to explore our enquiry question 'Who Rules the Animal Kingdom?' in Science, where we investigated which conditions woodlice prefer the most. The children loved hunting in the garden for woodlice, which we carefully brought back to the classroom to observe and discover which conditions they were drawn to the most. We found our woodlice spent most of their time on dark, damp surfaces. Once complete, we took our woodlice safely back to their micro-habitat.
In Geography, we made comparisons between the UK and Kenya, focusing on physical and human features. During Music with Mrs Butlin, we practised using the chime bars to create patterns which we performed to our partners. In DT, we explored how to join different materials together and evaluated which methods were best. This was lots of fun and helped us to start making decisions about how we may join different materials when creating our animal sock puppets.
We concluded our Place Value unit in Maths this week. All the children have done so well and shown a great understanding of Place Value. We have now moved on to Addition and Subtraction, starting today by applying numbers bonds within 10 to add tens and hundreds.
In English, we have made progress towards writing up a recount of our Dartmoor Zoo trip. We practised using our 'doctor's kits' to operate on sick sentences and turn these into healthy sentences. We enjoyed working together to improve our writing. Next week, we will finish writing our recounts.
Congratulations to Esme, Ida and Brody for being chosen as Landaviddy's People of the Week. And a big well done to Frankie and Iylah for achieving their 99 club badges this week!
We hope you enjoy a fantastic weekend and will see you on Monday.
Mrs Wilkie, Mrs Lister and Miss Colton
It has been another week full of learning, fun and discoveries in Class 2.
In Literacy, we have continued to look at book by Catherine Rayner and comparing them. Besides "Augustus and his smile," we have read "Solomon crocodile" and "Smelly Louie." We used the language in these books to help us explore similes. In Maths, we have continued with Addition and Subtraction by exploring number bonds. We have had oodles of fun using our knowledge of bonds to 10 to help us understand number bonds to 100.
In Science, we used our knowledge of a healthy balanced diet to design our own healthy balanced menu for the day. In Art, we continue to explore autumn leaves by experimenting with painting wax resist autumn leaves. In History, we continued our enquiry into how schools have changed by learning about what the school was like during the Victorian era.
To help us better understand this, we travelled back in time on Friday and had an entire day of experiencing a Victorian classroom. We had a paperless and screenless classroom. So, the children used slate and chalk for all their lessons while teachers gave / wrote instructions on a "chalk board." In the afternoon, children also got a taste of the life skills Victorian boys and girls learned at school. While Mr Hunt took the boys out for a lesson in woodwork, the girls stayed with me and Miss Connell for sewing lesson. Finally, we ended the day by playing some games children in the Victorian era might have played. Please find below some photos from this experience.
A very well done to:

The children playing some Victorian games to end the day.

Some samples of Literacy, Maths and Phonics lessons on slate with chalk.

In the afternoon, the girls learned sewing while the boys had lessons in carpentry.

This week, the children have continued to impress with their hard work and enthusiasm across all areas of learning. We enjoyed our penultimate swimming session, where everyone has shown great progress and growing confidence in the water. In English, we have finished writing our exciting stories from another culture and are now moving on to creating non-chronological reports all about axolotls - the children are already fascinated by these unique creatures!
This afternoon, several children represented our school in cross country - we're so proud of their effort and determination and we can't wait to hear about how they did on Monday!
The quality of learning in class has been excellent, with pupils taking great pride in their presentation, as you can see from two Year 3 books above that have produced some outstanding work!
Next week is set to be a busy one. Here are a few reminders of events that are happening:
Tuesday - Parents and Carers are warmly invited into Class 3 to see our morning maths learning in action.
Wednesday - Our final swimming session.
Friday - A meeting in Class 3 about the Porthpean residential for 2026.
TALLAND'S BLOG 10.10.25
This term is flying by! Another end to another great week! Good luck to all of the Cross Country Runners'. We hope you enjoyed yourselves!
Here's a break down of our week:
Maths:
Year 4 have completed PLACE VALUE and have just begun ADDITION and SUBTRACTION where they have started by adding 10 / 100 / 1,000 to numbers. They have also explored quadrilaterals.
Year 5 have also begun ADDITION and SUBTRACTION where we have looked at regrouping numbers whilst using column method. They have also continued using protractors where they are measuring degrees up 180.
English:
Talland have independently completed their narrative, assessed which writing techniques they have used and are now writing them up using their neatest handwriting. Reading them was a real delight!
PE:
Yoga and football have of course continued and we are beginning to see some real progression in Talland's agility, balance, coordination and control.
Geography:
We had a double dose of Geography this week to get us ready for our trip to the Eden Project next week. We investigated Brazil's regions, found out about its climate and realised where most Rainforests are found.
Computing:
Talland made a fun maths game on Scratch this afternoon where different codes and variables were used - a good times table knowledge was also useful for this activity!
CONGRATULATIONS to Kayla for achieving her next badge in 99 club and a massive WELL DONE to George and Anya for getting noticed this week for their kindness and eagerness to learn.
We are going to Eden on Wednesday for our class trip (which I'm so excited for) and letter incoming in the attachments for some more fun to be had on Monday 20th October 2025!
That's all from us in Talland class. We hope you have a splendid weekend!
Signing off from Mr. Langley and Mr. Bishop.

Some of this weeks wonderful exploration has included:
Learning phonemes h/b/f and digraph /l/. The children have
learnt these sounds and then have worked really hard to use these sounds, and
previously learnt ones, to orally blend. They are blending words together amazingly
well!
We have been really trying to write our own names in
foundation this week. The children create such wonderful artwork and creations and
it's important they can write their names to send them home!

The children have been exploring water with their senses this week. Our water tray was filled with pinecones, conkers, orange and apple slices, the water was also fragranced with strawberry. We loved exploring each smell and touching the objects!
We loved singing our Harvest songs to some of the parents in assembly on Tuesday. We also enjoy singing each day in class and learning lots of different songs.

In maths this week we have been comparing amounts, and the children have been using full mathematical sentences to compare objects. Our focus words have been more and fewer.
Each week we discover more and more and the children are progressing so well.
The Foundation Team

What a busy and exciting time it's been in Tregantle Class!
The children have been absolutely brilliant at practicing their sounds - both in reading and writing. It's wonderful to see their growing confidence as they spot sounds in words and use them in their own writing.
In maths, we've been busy sorting all sorts of items into groups and comparing different sets of objects. The children have also become real experts at ordering numbers to 5 - such careful counting and number work happening every day!
This week, Tregantle were thrilled to take part in their very first Brunel Harvest Festival. Everyone listened beautifully and sang our song "Big Red Combine Harvester" with great enthusiasm - we were so proud of them all!
Our focus for outside learning has been The Gingerbread Man. After listening to the story, the children used natural materials to create their very own gingerbread men outdoors. Back in the classroom, they got creative again by decorating their own gingerbread men at the craft table - such imagination and care went into every design!
To finish the week, we joined together to support World Mental Health Day by wearing something yellow. The children took part in some lovely relaxing and calming activities, helping us all to think about how we can look after our minds as well as our bodies.
What a fantastic week, Tregantle - we're so proud of all your hard work and enthusiasm!
