Friday 5th December

Some of this week's wonderful exploration has included:

On Monday we were shocked to discover the Christmas Elves had indeed visited us and they had decorated our whole room beautifully. They had left us a lovely note and a book advent calendar (and maybe a chocolate one too!) They have been leaving lots of mess for Mrs Phillips to clean up this week. They have eaten our fruit, had a snowball fight with the adult's cotton balls and then splash disappeared last night and we found her in Mrs Waring's pocket in assembly!!!

In English this week the children explored the Christmas Story. They then sequenced the story into their books using some amazing oracy skills! The children's vocabulary is really progressing well.

In maths we have been learning how to represent numbers to five in different ways, for instance 3+1= 4 but 2+ 2 = 4 too!

This week the children have also made Nativity scenes, designed and decorated their own Christmas tree and Christmas jumper, made a manager and stable from building blocks and Lego and so much more!

It was Christmas Crafternoon on Tuesday, and the children loved completing Christmas craft with you all.

The Christmas magic has definitely arrived in class and we are using lots of Christmas activities to progress our learning, knowledge and skills!

Have a lovely weekend

It has been a busy week leading up to our Christmas performance which is on Monday afternoon. The children have been practicing their singing and are sounding great. We look forward to performing it for everyone!

The children have been enjoying our Christmas themed role play area and have been busy creating lots of lovely craft to take home at the end of term.

At storytime we have enjoyed books including "Hurry Santa" and "Santa needs a wee".
During phonics, the children have been identifying and grouping initial sounds of different words and trying to identify instrumental sounds and matching them.
They have also been trying hard to listen to different rhyming words.

In maths we have been ordering numbers and matching numeral and quantity and exploring patterns.

Have a great weekend

Julie and Sarah

Thank you and Merry Quizmas!

Thank you to all who attended our Christmas Quiz afternoon in class. We had a great time and it was lovely to see so many of you there.

All teams did really well with some tricky Christmas questions and the even trickier picture and anagrams round.

Well done to all!

Class 3 Blog for W/E 5th December

We've had another fantastic week in Class 3! The children have been working incredibly hard, especially as we've continued to focus on rehearsals for our upcoming play. A huge thank you for supporting them with learning their lines at home - it has made a real difference. Their confidence has grown so much, and rehearsals have gone brilliantly. We are all very excited to perform for you next Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

In Science, the children took part in a fascinating investigation into conductors and insulators. They tested a variety of materials within an electrical circuit to see whether the bulb would light up. One of the most exciting moments was when we held hands in a big circle to find out whether humans can conduct electricity - and we discovered that we can! Our special device buzzed when the circuit was complete and stopped whenever someone broke the chain. The children loved seeing the science in action.

In Computing, we continued developing our understanding of databases. This week we began using Excel, learning how spreadsheets can store information and help us create simple graphs. The children have engaged enthusiastically with this new skill.

Update for week ending Friday 5th December 2025

Harrowbarrow Primary Academy  |  Class 4

The festive season is in full swing, and our team has been busy bringing the magic of Christmas to life! This year's play takes us on a nostalgic trip back to 1963-a time of classic charm, timeless traditions, and unforgettable music.  Alongside the creative buzz, we've also been diving into the world of circuits. Our experiments have focused on how changing variables-like resistance, voltage, and current-affects overall performance. It's been fascinating to see how small adjustments can lead to big differences in functionality. We've also been sharpening our troubleshooting skills, identifying potential issues.  Here we set the challenge to draw a "broken circuit" and then our partner had to "fix" it.  You have to look closely for the broken wire and the double wire in the pictures.

Our First Theatre Trip

Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy  |  YR/1 Tregantle

Tregantle Class Blog - What an Exciting Week!

This week has been full of festive fun and magical moments for Tregantle Class!

On Tuesday, we went on our class trip to Plymouth Theatre Royal to watch the 'Father Christmas' show. We travelled by train from Saltash to Plymouth, which was an adventure in itself! The children had a wonderful time-enjoying the journey, the enchanting performance, and even a special picnic inside the theatre.

On Thursday, we visited St Nicholas and Faith Church to explore the Christmas Tree Festival. The children loved taking part in a treasure hunt around the church and were thrilled to spot our very own Brunel Christmas tree on display!

To add to the excitement, we also had our first school disco this week. There was plenty of dancing, popcorn, and Christmas cheer to go around.

We've also been busy practicing our singing for our upcoming performance of 'Fleece Force,' which will take place next week. The children are working hard and sounding fantastic!

What a wonderful and exciting week it has been for Tregantle Class!

'How to Catch a _____' Literacy and D&T

Harrowbarrow Primary Academy  |  Class 1

How to Catch a _____
Last week, children in Year 1 wrote up their neat copies of their brilliantly innovated instructions. Read above to find out how to catch a unicorn! In our literacy books, you will also find out how to catch spiders, cheetahs and rabbits!

Designing a moving picture
In D&T, Y1 designed moving pictures to illustrate our instruction writing. We experimented with different mechanisms and chose which one we thought would suit our design best.

The finished product
We used our designs to inform our finished products. We used a Brusho background, acrylic foreground and oil pastel characters to make vibrant illustrations. Our characters move using a side-to-side or up-and-down mechanism. These wonderful moving pictures are on display in the main school building just around the corner from the servery- please feel free to take a look! We will be using what we've learned throughout this project to help us make moving Christmas cards- which our Reception children are very excited about!

Trees, trees and more trees...

This week has seen a veritable forest of trees in Y4/5, with a fabulous visit to the Christmas Tree Festival in St Nicholas & St Faith Church on Thursday. It made a great start to the festive season and is a tradition we all look forward to at Brunel Primary & Nursery Academy. Many thanks to the parents who accompanied us.

Also, we've been working on tree-based paintings in art; with Y4 producing some stunning abstracts of Winter birch trees, using watercolours and salt, whilst Y5 painted some super Winter landscapes in perspective - naturally, with lots more trees! Check them out at Hunt the Issy tonight!

This weekend sees the Saltash Christmas Festival and Lantern Parade; with carols at the bottom of Fore Street at 4.30pm and the Lantern Parade at 6pm (meeting at the Drill Hall from 5.30pm onwards). We're looking forward to seeing you there!

Polperro Primary Academy  |  Chaipel

Another busy week has flown by in Chaipel and we are fully immersed into our retelling of the Mayan folktale, THE HERO TWINS. We will be continuing this into next week, as the tale gets to its dilemma and resolution stages. Will the Hero Twins be victorious? Let's wait and see...

In Maths, we have be assessing our understanding of the four operations (addition/subtraction/multiplication/division), and identifying vertically opposite angles in our Friday Shape and Measurement lesson. Next week, Y6s will move onto Fractions - identifying equivalent fractions and ordering and comparing them.

Our Christmas play rehearsals are going well and we will be endeavouring to practise without scripts from Monday.

In our Wider Curriculum, we have been researching the benefits and drawbacks of a range of energy sources in Geography, identified the qualities of a Saviour in RE, learnt about the incredible life of Roberta Cowell in PSHE, observed Mayan artifacts in History and created our 3D lanterns for the village's Light Switch-On next Saturday.

CONGRATULATIONS to Chilali for being our Person of the Week, showing EXCELLENT values in her Mayan narrative write-up.

Take care and have a lovely weekend,

Miss Randle and Mrs Clary
