Our Curriculum

Pelynt Academy is a small primary school and Pre-School for children aged 2 -11, at the heart of Pelynt village, near Looe. We are very proud to be part of Bridge Schools Trust, a leading light in primary education in Cornwall. We were graded as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in June 2023. We have an exceptionally dedicated teaching team and wonderful support staff, who all have the highest expectations and aspirations for our children. We know that children flourish when they are treated with care and respect. The passion, commitment and kindness of our staff explains why Pelynt is such a special place.

We pride ourselves in offering a curriculum that inspires and excites our children to have a love of knowledge and learning. Our school helps all children to believe in themselves and to excel in their own individual way. We appreciate that no two children are the same and the teaching philosophy here allows pupils to be themselves, whilst enabling them to develop and progress. We teach our children to celebrate and respect the uniqueness of everyone in our school community.

Here are some of the key points from our Ofsted report, which you can read in full by following this link: Pelynt Ofsted Report

  • Pelynt is a welcoming school.
  • All pupils follow a broad, challenging and well-planned curriculum which also includes opportunities for outdoor learning.
  • Leaders have high expectation for what pupils can achieve. They are ambitious for pupils.
  • Pupils enjoy the positive relationships that exist with staff.
  • Children in the early years benefit from a calm and nurturing environment.

  • Personal development is an important part of the wider curriculum.
  • Children use their manners and share nicely with each other.
  • Parents are supportive of the school. They appreciate the ‘family feel’ that leaders have created.
  • Pupils are safe in school. They are confident to talk to a trusted adult with any concerns.
